So we got back from FaerieCon in one piece. I think it is probably clear by now that I am not one that is particularly good at giving detailed blow by blows of my time spent at cons and fests and the like. I always have a blast and enjoy seeing friends but when I come back I spend several days processing in several respects and by the time I get around to blogging I've already told the story several times and forgotten half the details. Basically fun was had, alcohol was consumed, art was created, friends hugged etc etc.
This week I am working on my sister Tamar's website a lot. She owns the metaphysical store The Owl Nest in Frederick Maryland. We are adding online shopping to her site and it will be up and running by Halloween/Samhain. But I must admit I've been dividing my attention between her site and a new painting. His working title is McSteamy or Steamhunk if you will. LOL. Let me splain....I took photos of the fabulous Thomas from Brute Force Leather (and the lovely Amanda as well) while at FaerieCon. You all know who Thomas is even if you think you don't. He's "that guy" at the cons with the long blonde hair and the steampunk mech arm. Riiiight...him! Well I snapped his photo. Then I sat down and started sketching out a new Cameo Portrait inspired by his photo. (Refresher my Cameo portraits are the paintings with a painted frame around the subject - I am most thankful to my friend Jane Starr Weils for coining the term Cameo Portrait for me) Anyhoo I sketched out Thomas' portrait - with plenty of artistic license of course and I just loved how it turned out and jumped straight from pencil sketch to painting. It's coming along very nicely! I'll post pics in a bit. But I am keeping this one under wraps for the most part. Not even painting it on the webcam. I want it to be a surprise.
